Sangeeta Bijlani: Sangeeta was a Miss India who started trying her luck in films. Salman fell for this beauty queen and sister Alvira apparently play cupid. If there is one woman who Salman came too close to marrying, it was Sangeeta Bijlani. Rumour has it that wedding cards were also almost printed. But unfortunately, the love story ended. Somy Ali: A 19 year old Somy Ali was the next one to walk into Salman’s heart. The two made for a happy couple but this one turned out to be a brief relationship. Rumour has it that Salman’s drinking ways played spoilsport and the couple called it quits.

Aishwarya Rai: Salman Khan fell hook, line and sinker for the light eyed former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and the duo whipped up some legendary chemistry in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Salman was reportedly madly in love with Aishwarya who too reciprocated with equal warmth initially. However, problems cropped up with Salman’s alleged abusive behaviour towards Aishwarya being seen as the prime reason behind the couple going their separate ways. Katrina Kaif: This one went on for a long while. Salman was apparently besotted by this London beauty who had just made her debut in Bollywood with a disaster called Boom. Salman took Katrina under his wings and love blossomed between the duo and so did the latter’s career in Bollywood. Katrina was quite faithful having stood behind Salman through his turbulent times especially when he was incarcerated. However like every other Salman love stories this one too came to an end.

Actor Ravi Kishan files complaint for missing daughter

Mumbai:  
        Bollywood and Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan has filled a missing complaint of his 19-year-old daughter
         with police here.
   

"A complaint has been filed at the Bangurnagar police station few days ago by the actor (Ravi Kishan) and the police is probing the case," said DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni.

Police sources claimed that his daughter had left the 44-year-old actor's house for the second time.

Yo Yo Honey Singh loses opportunity to meet Skrillex

 As Honey Singh has gone off the radar, he was completely unaware that Grammy award-winning EDM artiste Skrillex, who recently visited India, had expressed a desire to collaborate with him.

Skrillex reportedly said, “I have heard of Yo Yo Honey Singh. I know he is blowing up right now and would love to collaborate with him.”

By the time the news reached Yo Yo, Skrillex had left the country. Honey lost the chance to meet up with him, but is still thrilled with the compliment he got from the man. Honey is now keeping his fingers crossed, hoping that some day their paths will cross.

'Solace': Film Review

'Solace': Film Review

Star turns by Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell as psychic adversaries boost box office prospects for this neo-noir thriller that's been 15 years in the making.

Afonso Poyart’s Solace finally sees the light of day after a long gestation and difficult birth, followed by more than a year spent locked away in a cupboard. Many hands were set to work on the screenplay which at one point – word had it – was being tailored to become a sequel to David Fincher’s Se7en. Two trailers issued over the summer left opinion divided, and even the billing of Anthony Hopkins alongside Colin Farrell has so far failed to convince US distributors to take it on board. The good news is that the movie is half decent. The caveat is that it could have been a lot better.

Opening in France and scheduled for a UK opening later this month, Solace is pitched as a neo-noir police thriller in the same vein as Se7en, Zodiac or The Silence of the Lambs. John Clancy (Hopkins) is a retired police doctor who happens to have psychic powers, including the ability to see into the future (the French title is Premonitions). A former FBI colleague, Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) persuades him back onto the beat to help track down a serial killer who, he gradually realises, also has psychic powers – powers that are greater than his own. Furthermore, he detects that all the victims had one thing in common: they were all suffering from diseases which – whether they knew it or not, and generally they did not – meant that they were doomed to die a painful death in the not too distant future.

For most of the first and second acts the movie follows the genre conventions with little evidence of originality. Clancy’s early spat and later warming relationship with Merriwether’s sidekick Katherine Cowles (Abbie Cornish), a specialist in psychology, the slo-mo and flash-cut visions with suggestions of occult influences, the portentous-percussive soundtrack, the initial suspect who escapes and is killed in a shoot-out following a car chase, are all straight out of the gothic crime thriller tool-kit.

The movie steps up a gear when the killer Charles Ambrose (Farrell) finally (on the hour mark) appears on screen and the dialogue starts tackling delicate issues such as the rights and wrongs of mercy killing. By now Clancy and Farrell are fully engaged in a game of cat-and-mouse in which it’s the killer who clearly has the upper hand. The action builds to a gripping confrontation in a subway carriage in which Ambrose’s motives are made plain and the conflict is resolved.

It’s all tosh, of course, but no more than par for the course. There are tonal incongruities, partly the consequence of the decision to use the down-and-dirty serial killer format to discuss a serious social and philosophical issue, and possibly also arising from the multiplicity of writers. An original script by Ted Griffin (Ocean‘s Eleven) dating back 15 years, was given a final going-over by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), having received input along the way from Sean Bailey (better known in the industry as Disney’s president of production) and Jamie Vanderbilt.

It’s a pleasure to see Hopkins, as he demonstrates his superhuman perceptive skills to his colleagues, reprising a few riffs from the Hannibal Lecter songbook, and one sharp exchange between Clancy and Ambrose in a café positively crackles with Shakespearean eloquence.

The direction by Brazilian helmer Poyart (Two Rabbits) is workmanlike, though the occasional splitting of characters into multiple images of themselves is perhaps a flourish too far. Shot on location in Atlanta, the movie presents solid technical credentials, though at times the editing and even the lighting leave something to be desired. The secret withheld by Clancy and revealed at the denouement is fair enough, but the tacked-on Hollywood ending may have some spectators groaning.

With these and other production flaws, Solace is never going to achieve anything like the cult status of its models. That said, Hopkins gives full value for money as the troubled medium, and during the relatively short time he is onscreen the Irish-born Farrell, his profile considerably raised since his starring role in the second season of True Detective, demonstrates why his star is on the rise Stateside. The chemistry they achieve is a powerful argument for giving Solace its chance on the multiplex circuit.

Salman Khan's shishyas: Young talents the superstar mentored

Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty are not the only newbies to be mentored by Salman Khan. The superstar has gone out of his way to support and promote young actors, actresses and musicians too. Some of them have gone on to become major stars. Others couldn't build on 'advantage Salman'. Here's a list of Salman's protegees who made it and who didn't.

1. Hrithik Roshan: Salman Khan took a shine to Roshan Jr during the shooting of Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun. Saw a bright future in the youngster. Personally took photographs of him and gave it to key media persons and producers.

2. Inder Kumar: Then there is Inder Kuma. Salman saw huge potential in this young actor too. Inder not only hung around Salman's home (like all his proteges) he also played roles in Salman's home productions and Salman starrers like Tumko Na Bhool Payenge and Wanted. However every Salman protegee cannot be a Hrithik Roshan.

3. Arjun Kapoor: Although Arjun was Salman's sister's ex, Salman never held the broken relationship against Arjun. He encouraged the flabby shapeless star-kid to lose weight and become a potential star.

4. Himesh Reshammiya: It's not just actors who owe their careers to Salman. Himesh was only a struggling composer in Bollywood until Salman's ears fell on the Gujju composer's catchy songs. Salman Khan repeatedly used Himesh's songs in his film and sang Himesh's songs on screen. Big boost.

5. Kamaal Khan: 'Oh Oh Jaane Jana' fame London based besura singer hung around Salman until the hit-and-run case. Not heard of Kamaal since then.

6. Pulkit Samrat: There are Salman protégés who are helped by the superstar. Then there is Pulkit, Salman's rakhi-sister's husband, who spends so much time with Salman that he has begun to look and behave like a pocket-sized version of Salman. Same to same.

7. Armaan Malik: Anu Malik's nephew has shot to stardom with the Hero theme song sung by Salman Khan.

8. Sonakshi Sinha: It's not just the guys who benefit from Salman's mentoring. Look at Sonakshi Sinha! Who knows what shape her career would have taken if Salman and Dabangg had not happened to her?

10. Vinay Virmani: After Sooraj Pancholi it's Toronto-based Vinay Virmani whom Salman will mentor into stardom. Salman is the co-producer of Vinay's Dr Cabbie. And he has tall plans for the newcomer.
